Artling Pavilion, Singapore

Home / / Artling Pavilion, Singapore

The word ‘pavilion’ is a decorated tent translated from the Old French word pavillon, which is derived from the Latin papilo that means“butterfly or tent”.

More than being just a “container of art”, the new ARTLING PAVILION fluctuates between architecture and sculpture, delivering art and entertainment wherever needed and requested.

This design proposal, or TANGRAM VOYAGER, is able to reinvent itself just like the traditional Tangram games puzzle. Each component can alternate and rotate to create multiple connections.

The TANGRAM VOYAGER is a combination of Art and Architecture. It is a gallery space where Art is the main actor while Artists, Academics, Film Directors have a travelling platform to present their work to the public.

Unlike other ordinary pavilions, TANGRAM VOYAGER is perceived as a series of contemporary spaces in various configurations, in either symmetrical or asymmetrical compositions, to suit the hosting site. The various configurations can be achieved due to its structure elements as well as the other materials composing the overall façade, roof and interiors. The structure, materials and components are all reusable. Yet they provide high quality and economical solutions to the issues mentioned in the brief.

The Entry to the TANGRAM VOYAGER, is designed to give the feeling of a starting journey into the Art world whilst the internal courtyard is designed to enchant and surprise the visitor and be at the same time a central gravity space: guests and artist have the chance to mill around the open area, enjoying a drink from the nearby Champagne Bar or Coffee Bar, sitting down or climbing few steps for a surprised view of the stunning Marina Bay.

One of the main exhibition room becomes the Auction room at times, thanks to a series of panelling doors on a pivot system that opens or closes when suited.

All the spaces as we mentioned revolve around the courtyard, guests are never too far away from Art and relaxing deck and vice versa.
